The establishment of the Mississippi College School of Nursing was the realization of a dream of a former president of the University, Dr. Richard A. McLemore. In 1966, the Gilfoy School of Nursing, Baptist Hospital, Jackson, Mississippi, the only Baptist school of nursing in the state, decided to phase out its diploma program in nursing.
